Always play the maximum amount of coins per play. It's the only way to make sure you receive maximum payout. In the game of Jacks or Better for example, a payout for a royal flush is 250 per coin. If you had maxed the bet you would also receive 4000 coin bonus
Video Poker
Video poker is the same as real poker, right?
Well the answer to that is a definitive...kind of. All though for the most part the hands play the same there are certainly differences between Video Poker and Table Poker. Here are a few differences.
During table poker you can keep a keen eye out at the other players reactions as they read their cards in the hope of seeing something that will tip you off to the hand they hold. Video poker is just you and machine. The only thing you're going to see is your own reflection in the glass. The end result of this is that you have to learn to play smart because instinct won't be a factor in this game.A straight flush and a royal flush in table poker are almost one in the same in that they pretty much guarantee the winning hand.
In video poker the royal flush pays out at least 16 times more than a straight flush making it the more desirable of the two by a county mile. In table poker a hand of two pair (Q,Q, 10,10) is an easy winner over (7,7 5,5) but in video poker two pair pays out the same no matter what the denomination of the cards.
In video poker it's the casino that is banking the game but the machine doesn't try to beat your hand. At this point you are essentially playing solitaire... think of it as Free Cell on steroids
Holding a "kicker" in table poker can pay off when the showdown hits but is just a waste of a card in video poker.
So there you have it, two games the same only different. Whichever game you choose it's important to play smart and never put in more than you can afford to lose.
Choosing a game
We know what you're thinking. How hard can it be to choose a machine? You just find one with that catches your eye it and start to play. Easy, right? Well sure, but what if there was a game that looked the same but payed out better? Do you know how to tell the difference? We do, and we'll share with you because..well...we're just nice people. On the front of every video poker terminal is a wonderful piece of art called the payout table. The payout table tells you everything you need to know about the game you are about to play. Our goal is to compare games and find the one that offers the best payouts ergo the best chance of us walking away with more than we started. To do this we are going to look at two categories, the payout for the flush and the payout for the full house.
The following payouts are based on playing one coin:
9-1 for a full house and 6-1 for a flush = approximate machine payout of 99.5%
8-1 for a full house and 5-1 for a flush = approximate machine payout of 97.4%
7-1 for a full house and 5-1 for a flush = approximate machine payout of 96.3%
6-1 for a full house and 5-1 for a flush = approximate machine payout of 95.2%
As you can see it's much more advantageous to choose your game carefully because the difference between a game that pays 99.5% and a game that pays 95.2% could also be the difference between you having empty or full pockets.
Gimme Some Games!
Geez, you are the demanding sort aren't you? Okay, how about Jacks or Better? We think you'll like this game and we're not alone in our thoughts as Jacks or Better is the most popular video poker game on the planet. You don't think that 6,431,247,774 people can be wrong do you? Good.
Like any game Jacks or Better takes a bit of strategy and a little luck to do well at but it can be done. Here are some tips to keep you in the black
.Never keep a "kicker" with any pair. Hanging on to a kicker will reduce your return by 5%
Never break a flush to draw to a straight flush but always break a flush to draw to a royal.
Never refuse to draw 5 new cards. The odds are better you'll end up with something better by drawing rather than keeping a dog hand.
Never draw 4 cards if you can draw 3 to a royal flush
Don't keep a 10 for a 4 card draw.
Always keep a winning 5 card hand with one exception, if you can draw 1 to a royal flush
Never break a straight to draw to a straight flush
Never draw 5 if you have a jack or better
A few rules apply when your first round of cards has a whole lot of nothing going for it.
Keep any two suited high cards, draw the rest
Keep any single high card
If you are dealt four mixed suit high cards it's best to keep 3 suited and discard the rest.
